This will go in the books under "dumb criminals." Three men bust into a convenience store in an attempt to haul away the ATM. Their plan didn't go so well.
It was all caught on tape. The Citgo gas station's surveillance cameras were rolling when the would be burglars showed up early Wednesday morning on 107th Street south of Brown Deer Road.
They back a GMC Suburban trough the store's front door. Glass goes flying everywhere. The driver gets out and first tries pulling on the ATM.
Here's what he doesn't know, the machine is bolted to the floor.
The burglars seem confused and without a plan on how to get the ATM out of the store. This time they use the SUV.
They tie a rope around the machine and the Suburban's bumper; the driver guns it. That didn't work, the machine didn't budge.
One of the men gives the ATM one last tug and then gives up.
The store kept the ATM; it's pretty scratched up but still works. The owners have installed posts outside the front door making it impossible for anyone to back into the store.
The Suburban was recovered over the weekend a few blocks away in 8700 block of North Granville Road.
But police are still looking for the three suspects.
